Raw hair costs more? Wait, what's raw hair? I thought raw hair and virgin hair were the same thing.
A lot of people use the term raw hair and virgin hair interchangeably. You automatically think, both "raw" and "virgin" mean unprocessed hair right?
Not quite!
Please allow us to blow your mind a little bit, because the difference between the two will drastically change how you shop for hair.
VIRGIN HAIR VS. RAW HAIR
Virgin Hair:
Let's start with virgin hair because that's what is most common.
The term virgin hair is used to describe hair that is NOT chemically processed (color treated, permed, relaxed, bleached or dyed). However, there are other types of processing that the hair goes through.
You know that body wave, passion wave, even silky straight hair textures you all love so much? (We love it too!) They are all steam processed.
Virgin hair means that the hair undergoes a steam process to achieve this look. In simpler terms, they did not receive it from the donor with that curl pattern or wave.
Speaking of donors! A virgin hair bundle does not come from a single donor.
Because they aren't from one donor that makes steam processing a great thing in this instance because the bundles are more likely to look identical to one another, which make for an effortless sew-in weave or wig.
Steam processing can also make your hair last up to a year or two while preserving the style and pattern you bought it in.
Sorry ladies, we have one more bubble to burst before we move on to raw hair.
You know how you hear the terms, Malaysian hair, Peruvian hair, Brazilian etc...
The hair does not actually originate from the countries or areas they are named after. It is simply a way to market hair. If you notice, that is why we never labeled where our bundles came from, we simply refer to it as virgin hair. We want to be as transparent as possible with you all.
Now, that we've broken down what virgin hair is exactly, let's talk about raw hair.
Raw Hair:
Raw hair is the highest quality hair you can purchase. Why?
Because raw hair is not chemically or heat processed in any way.
It tends to be thicker and with proper care can last you anywhere from 3-5 years.
It also comes from a single donor. Single donor hair is a bundle of hair that is cut only from one donor.
You'll also hear the terms, Raw Indian hair, Raw Vietnamese hair, or Raw Cambodian. When they associate raw hair with these countries, the hair actually does originate from these countries!
Last but not least, because raw hair is not altered in any way, it may be a little coarser and requires a little more TLC.
We know this was a lot of information so to make it easier we'll leave this comparison chart below:
Virgin Hair | Raw Hair |
Not chemically processed; is steam processed | Completely unprocessed |
Lasts 1-2 years with proper care | Lasts 3-5 years with proper care |
Great shine, good density | Good shine, thicker density |
Does not come from a single donor | Single donor bundles |
Hair is not actually Malaysian, Peruvian, or Brazilian | Hair originates from Vietnam, Cambodia, India, |
Great quality hair | Best quality hair |
What does Black Label Tresses have in store for you?
Our hair sold by the bundle is virgin hair. We took the necessary steps to test and provide you with the best quality virgin hair. But that's not all we have for you ladies.
If you follow us on Instagram you may have seen the new exciting news. We are now offering 5x5 Raw Vietnamese wigs! Pre-order yours now!
We wanted to step the quality up a notch since everyone seems to be in the market for a good wig that will have a long lifespan.
Most starter closure wigs use a 4x4 closure which we felt is a bit small to have a natural part, so we hooked you ladies up with a 5x5 closure. This size closure will allow you to part your hair closer to the crown of your head.
We also chose to provide you ladies with raw hair because you deserve it!
No honestly, when we started this company, we thought about all the times we bought hair only to be disappointed in the quality, thickness (or lack thereof), or the longevity of it.
So right out of the gate, we wanted to provide thicker, quality, beginner friendly wigs.
We know the follow up question is probably, "When will you have frontal wigs?!"
Don't worry sis, it's coming! We'll definitely keep you updated.
